In order to get to know our students and to be able to assess them as precisely as possible, we conduct a specially designed interview with each student after the initial consultation. By talking to the students, we bring out their respective strengths and weaknesses, personal characteristics such as openness and self-confidence and can use the knowledge gained to create detailed evaluations that help us to find the perfect school for the students. Bringing school and student together also requires knowledge of the respective requirements of the schools. What does a school particularly value - excellent grades or an extroverted character? Is the academic focus on scientific curiosity or are outstanding musicians looking for? Often we can introduce suitable schools to the students after the first or second interview and make our recommendations. Unfortunately, an honest evaluation also includes the rejection of those students for whom we do not see a promising future in Germany due to a lack of motivation or poor grades, and in these cases we recommend staying in China, especially for the sake of the students.
The students that we accept without hesitation and for whom we want to enable a good academic future in Germany meet the following three main criteria: language, grades, character. The main criteria emerged over the course of several years of application of our interview concept, as our experience has shown which skills and characteristics really count in order to lead to a successful educational stay in Germany. The students who convince us with their knowledge of English in our interview will also be able to learn German with success; Excellent grades in the Chinese school system testify to hard work and ambition and can often be translated into good grades in the German school context; an open and curious personality helps with integration and making valuable friendships. In detail, let's look at the following properties: |
Linguistic affinity
We pay attention to the interest of the students in languages in general and whether they already have a good level of English. If this is the case, we are confident that, with a lot of diligence and targeted learning, you can also successfully acquire the German language and the B2 level required for school entry according to the Common European Framework of Reference (GER).
Motivation and curiosity
Are the students curious about foreign cultures, open to the world and are they looking forward to new challenges? In order to successfully complete the educational stay in Germany, a general interest and an intrinsic motivation of the students is required. If they do not show their own motivation for going to school in Germany and only follow the ambitions of their parents, they often do not make it through to high school.
Diligence and good grades
Since the transition from the Chinese to the German school system holds many challenges in store for the young people, it is important to see a diligence in their grades and previous performance with which they can surely master these challenges and shine in the German school system.
Ability to learn
German Gymnasium, especially in comparison to Chinese educational institutions, expect and encourage a high degree of independence from their students, as well as developing and expressing their own opinions and what they have learned themselves. Therefore, we pay attention to a high degree of personal responsibility and the ability of self-taught study in our students.
Open personality
Good communication is essential for good integration into everyday school and boarding school life. With openness and friendliness, the students quickly create a good relationship with classmates and teachers.
Independence
Compared to Chinese students, German students have significantly more free time to organize study times, homework and hobbies accordingly. In order to prevent our students from being overwhelmed by this new independence, we make sure that they bring a good degree of independence and self-discipline with them.
