The "Fachabitur" is of course more dedicated to practice. It requires that the trainees work in different departments of the company during the annual internship in order to fully experience and understand the composition and operations of a company. Personally, I didn't have a clear plan for my future career, so I hope to learn more about the world of work and find a suitable direction from different angles through the one-year internship.
The atmosphere in the GEP Frankfurt office is very good. My colleagues helped me a lot. We are colleagues, but also friends. On the first day of the internship, Janina set up the small office for me. Your friendliness and kindness helped me to integrate quickly into the team. As the only trainee this year, my field of work is extensive. The most common ones are the routine written tasks such as scanning, copying and filing documents, translating letters or texts, querying and summarizing all kinds of information, etc. In addition, we often have to call the insurance company. We buy and wrap gifts when there is a traditional Chinese festival. The students arriving in Germany for the first time were picked up by me at the airport. I accompany them to test them, to check into hotels and later to register in Germany. These activities, in which you have to deal with people, make a lot of sense to me.
Although I have been living in Germany for three years, with the exception of the teachers and students in the school, I had almost no experience with the locals before the start of this internship. In order to complete the work, I was "forced" to communicate with others. This process is really difficult for a "social phobia patient". Fortunately, I have successfully overcome this barrier. There are also many unexpected tasks. As Janina said, you can never imagine that you will learn this skill. For example, in the second week of the internship, I spent the whole morning screwing in front of the drawings to assemble two swivel chairs. I also tried editing videos, adjusting audio tracks, and making subtitles. Sometimes I am very busy. In the special time of the pandemic, many things are more complicated. So I have to think about another option. Sometimes I'm free all week. I use the time to learn English. I am planning to take an IELTS or German C1 exam this year...
Of course, it is not always easy to act for the first time in the world of work. While doing some boring work, I feel confused as to why I'm coming here. When I made mistakes in my work, Ms. Huang criticized me. After that I was finally able to understand that many things have to be handled more professionally. During my internship at GEP, I not only gained work experience, but also a calm and orderly attitude to deal with tasks or to speak to strangers. The internship has taught me a lot. I am very grateful to those who have helped me this year. I am also very grateful to myself that I worked seriously and hard. I'm looking forward to my studies and the new life to come.
